This is NOT the year of mobile – in fact the year of mobile was 2007 when the first iPhone launched. However, despite it not being the year of mobile it is the year FOR mobile. The mobile future is NOW – it is an exploding channel and one that is still new for many marketers!images

Today, I was lucky enough to sit back and be a participant in DMA’s Non-Profit Mobile Day – a pre-con session to the annual DMA New York Non-Profit Conference presented in partnership with Napean and Mobile Commerce Daily. The full-day session was packed with inquisitive non-profit marketers trying to maximize this exploding channel. They were all along the spectrum from how do we fold in mobile strategies to where do we go to take this to the next level.

The agenda included strategic, tactical and execution advice from nifty non-profit practitioners and supporters such as: The American Red Cross, The Museum of Modern Art, The BBB, The Humane Society of the United States, The Better Business Bureau, New York’s Channel 13, Connect2Give, GiveByCell, mGood, Mobile Commons and Urban Airship. Throughout the day the speakers shared insight on their journeys to creating mobile friendly websites, mobile email, ap creation and mobile video. Best practices in responsive design were shared as well as a respect and understanding for consumer trust and privacy protection.

Since the day was chock-full of gems of wisdom – I am sure everyone walked away with something they can go back and apply.  For me, my ah ha! moment came from Joe Harrell from Thirteen/WNET when he shared their strategy around mobile video and how content can impact response. Take a look at their #TVGONEWRONG campaign, that launched on Monday. My two favorites are The Clam Kings and The Tanners.    The response and uptick in mobile giving has been tremendous from this campaign.
