DMA was saddened to learn of the passing of Lindy Bogg, who, as the Wall Street Journal reports, was “the first woman elected to Congress from Louisiana, and a leading figure in the civil-rights movement and a champion of economic equality for women. Ms. Boggs, a Democrat who served in the House for 18 years after taking over the seat of her late husband, Hale Boggs, died Saturday at the age of 97. Her life in politics took her from behind the scenes of her husband’s campaigns to the post of Vatican ambassador. Along the way, she raised three children, including ABC News political commentator Cokie Roberts.”

In the words of Jerry Cerasale, DMA’s VP of government affairs:

“DMA has lost a friend with the passing of former Representative Lindy Boggs. In the House she was always available to meet with us and discuss the needs of direct marketers in any legislation.  She even opened her home in the French Quarter in New Orleans for two fabulous thank you PAC receptions.  We – and our nation – will miss her.”
