Phyllis Freedman is President of SmartGiving, a consultancy providing planned giving marketing advice and counsel to organizations such as City of Hope, Ocean Conservancy and Human Rights Campaign. Previously, Phyllis was Managing Director of Epsilon’s nonprofit group. She also served as Associate Executive Director of Paralyzed Veterans of America and as Vice President of Marketing & Development for Special Olympics International. Phyllis is on the Board of the National Capitol Gift Planning Council and chaired Planned Giving Days 2013. She is a frequent speaker on the intersection of planned giving, stewardship, and direct marketing. Director of Gift Planning
Charlotte Meyer is the Director of Gift Planning at Ocean Conservancy, a national environmental nonprofit in Washington, DC that strives to be the world’s foremost advocate for the ocean. Her 30 years of service in the nonprofit sector includes 11 years of experience in charitable gift planning and 19 years in major gifts and general development with a particular emphasis on donor relations and stewardship. Most of her years of service have been with Ocean Conservancy. She also served as Director of Development for the Institute for Justice and as a Major Gift Officer for the Central Arizona Chapter of the American Red Cross. Mrs. Meyer earned her B.A. in Political Science from American University. She is a member of the National Capital Gift Planning Council and the Partnership of Philanthropic Planning.

Kathy Swayze is President and Creative Director of Impact Communications—a creative communications agency—which she founded 18 years ago. She is a leading proponent of nonprofit storytelling with more than 25 years’ experience in direct marketing and fundraising. She and her team at Impact Communications have helped hundreds of organizations improve their storytelling and attract more resources for their work. Kathy is active in the Direct Marketing Association of Washington and is the past President of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Washington DC Chapter.
