SEO, or “search engine optimization,” is a great way for a company to boost its internet presence and drive traffic to its site, and, unlike paid search, does not involve paying a fee (and run the risk of being grouped with other sponsored search results, which may turn consumers off). There are a number of reasons a site might redesign its website to boost its SEO, and it may surprise you to see which have risen and fallen over the past three years. Check out the chart below:
One result that jumps out immediately is the spike between 2011 and 2012 in the “To increase brand awareness/enhance reputation” category. It would seem that this might indicate a rise in the need for brand awareness and reputation in an increasingly oversaturated market—consumers are so inundated with choice that familiarity and comfort in a known brand could be the tipping point in their choice to patronize one business over another.
