Jerry Grossman has been in the marketing/advertising arena for over 30 years, and involved in the imaging industry since 1988.
He began in the advertising business, working at DMB&B, Ammirati & Puris and Scali, McCabe Sloves, on a variety of packaged goods and consumer electronics accounts, including the Nikon account.
Jerry joined Nikon as director of advertising in 1993 and held successive marketing positions at Nikon, including Vice President of Internet Development, where he launched Nikon’s original websites, Nikonusa.com and NikonNet, among the first photo sharing sites on the web. Following this, he was named Vice President of Marketing for all consumer products, where he was responsible for bringing Nikon from the analog to the digital world
An avid photo enthusiast, Jerry acquired Photo Industry Reporter magazine in April 2005, with the goal of creating an indispensable publication for the photo industry. Re-launched as Digital Imaging Reporter in 2013,the publication remains the leading trade publication in the imaging industry. The companion website, direporter.com, is a trusted news source in the imaging industry.
Jerry also created Demystifying Digital magazine, a quarterly insert in USA Today dedicated to making sense of today’s technology, as well as demystifyingdigital.com, a consumer targeted website that offers reviews and helpful hints to “all things digital.” The site was launched in 2007, and became a premiere destination in the CE space for a number of years. In March 2011 he launched “Photo Book and Creative Printing Retailer,” a trade magazine designed to help retailers increase their printing profits.
Jerry currently serves as editor in chief for Digital Imaging Reporter, Photo Book and Creative Printing Retailer and direporter.com.
In January 2009, Jerry was elected President of the PhotoImaging Manufacturer’s and Distributor’s Association (PMDA), and has since spearheaded the charge to re-invent this 70 year-old association. In February 2009, he created and spearheaded the PMDA/Soldier’s Angel’s Portraits of Love Project, and working with the USO and professional photographers, has sent over 10,000 portraits of US Soldier’s families to deployed soldiers during the Holiday Season. The program is currently in its seventh year.
In January 2011, he was named Executive Director of the PMDA.
In 2015, the PMDA created PMDA Salutes Photographers Who Give Back, which honors professional and student photographers who use their talents to give back to causes that are important to them.
Jerry is also an adjunct professor in the Graduate program at St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue, NY, teaching graduate courses in Marketing Concepts and Strategies, and Digital Marketing.
Jerry earned an MBA from Baruch College in NYC, and a BS in Marketing from SUNY Buffalo. He and his wife Nancy have been married for 33 years, and have two children who are making their way in the world – Allyson is a kindergarten teacher, and Zachary works in advertising for CNN.
