NEW YORK, NY – The Data & Marketing Association (DMA) today announced two advertising leaders to co-chair the Board of Governors for DMA’s International ECHO Awards: Josh Blacksmith, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Customer Relationship Marketing, FCB Chicago, and Tina Posey, President, Javelin Agency. Their concurrent two-year terms commenced on January 1, 2018.
The International ECHO Awards, launched almost 90 years ago, is a global competition that honors top data-driven advertising and marketing campaigns – data-informed storytelling and design– as judged by global industry peers for marketing strategy, creative and in-market performance. Most recently in October, 99 Gold, Silver and Bronze ECHOs were awarded in the 2017 competition, with the top Diamond ECHO Award presented to Cossette for its “100 Today” campaign on behalf of SickKids Foundation (Canada). The awards are guided by a sitting Board of Governors who oversee the competition’s vibrancy as data-driven marketing continues to thrive across the United States and the globe.
Blacksmith and Posey – newly named co-chairs selected by the ECHO Board of Governors itself – take the lead role from immediate past chair Jennifer Monaghan, Chief Marketing Officer for the University of Michigan Ross School of Business.
“An ECHO Award is a powerful, well-recognized marketing industry testament that honors data-informed marketing with real business results,” said Tom Benton, Data & Marketing Association CEO. “Josh and Tina are both impassioned ambassadors of brand advocacy and customer engagement, and I am confident that their leadership will continue to drive growth and popularity of the ECHO Awards program for the next two years.”
“Each year, the ECHOs continue to advance a compelling story of how rich data, innovative strategies and inspirational creative come together to drive business performance for brands across all verticals,” Blacksmith said. “The ECHOs are continuously evolving – into dynamic new channels such as virtual reality, augmented reality and artificial intelligence – as well as craft and industry categories. Collectively, ECHO winners present to the world advanced cases of what can be achieved by brands in today’s data-driven marketplace.”
“Agencies, brands and technology companies are seeking ECHO recognition like never before,” Posey said. “The ECHOs are unique among global competitions because they demand relevant, measurable customer experiences, powered by ideas that are built on connected data and customer intelligence. Sharing in the leadership of the ECHO Board of Governors offers a unique opportunity to keep raising the bar in honoring and recognizing the world’s best data-inspired marketing. Observing, judging and entering remarkable work enables all of us to maintain a pulse on what it takes to create better experiences for people and better business outcomes for our clients.”
Each year, hundreds of representatives from the international data and marketing community serve as judges over a three-month period, selecting the campaigns that will win an ECHO Award trophy – an honor that is shared by the brand, agency, consultants and their ad tech/mar tech partners. In 2017, fully 40% of the judging slate originated from outside the United States – and the 2017 ECHO finalists were composed of 64 agencies from 19 countries. A full roster of the 21-member ECHO Board of Governors is available here.
